Fine and Gross Motor Skills
Occupational Therapy intervention for children who struggle with gross motor skills (coordination, balance, low tone/strength,  ball skills etc.) or fine motor skills (manipulating small objects with hands, using cutlery, handwriting, doing up buttons or zippers) aims to teach specific skills as well as addressing underlying general skill deficits. Formal Assessment of gross and fine motor skills is available.
Occupational Therapy intervention for children who are struggling with handwriting focuses on improving areas such as pencil grip, pencil control, letter formation, writing speed, sizing and alignment, and general fine motor skills.
Alternatives to handwriting, such as typing, may be recommended for children with significant ongoing difficulties.
Handwriting assessments and reports for students wanting to apply for special exemption for exams are also available.

Hyperactivity / ADHD
Occupational Therapy intervention for children who are always on the go and struggle to stay on task and participate appropriately in the classroom focuses on providing strategies for parents and teachers to help manage the child's behaviour by providing the input that they are seeking in appropriate ways, at appropriate times, so that they are less likely to seek it in inappropriate ways or inappropriate times.

Sensory Defensiveness
Occupational Therapy intervention for children who react negatively to, or avoid certain sensory input such as sound or touch, may include a number of different strategies including
  • Identification of the child's sensory preferences and sensitivities
  • Education about Sensory Processing and what is going on for the child
  • Strategies to help avoid unpleasant input for the child
  • Strategies to help the child cope with input that can not be avoided
  • Desensitisation to the unpleasant input

Fussy Eaters
Occupational Therapy intervention for fussy eaters aims to decrease fear around trying new foods and increasing the range of foods accepted by the child, in a fun, non-threatening way.

Both Individual and Group therapy sessions are available.

Social and Emotional Skills
Occupational Therapy intervention for children with social and emotional challenges works on goals such as understanding emotions and reading facial expression, tone of voice and body language, teaching coping skills and calming techniques for anger and anxiety, practicing skills such as coping with losing, taking turns and having a conversation.

Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder commonly require intervention in this area however any children with difficulty in this area are welcome to access services.

Individual and Group therapy sessions are available.

Social Skills training is an eligible intervention under a Mental Health Care Plan and the Helping Children With Autism Funding through Medicare, as well as Autism Early Intervention Funding.
Behavioural Management
Occupational Therapy intervention for children with behavioural challenges focuses on identifying the cause or triggers of behaviour and working to reduce or eliminate them, identifying the difference between a tantrum and a meltdown and finding appropriate responses to each, as well as working with parents to put in place strategies such as appropriate reward systems and visual schedules.

Formal Assessment of short term and working memory is available. Occupational Therapy intervention to help improve memory may include a range of activities designed to challenge the child's memory at the right level. An intensive computer based memory training program is also available.
Visual Perception
Children who reverse letters when writing, make mistakes when copying shapes, letters or words or who struggle with reading may have visual perceptual difficulties. Formal assessment of visual perceptual skills is offered as well as intervention to help improve these skills. Please note this is not an assessment for a diagnosis of dyslexia.
